What are the medical services provided?

Worldwide emergency travel assistance services will help you in the event of a medical emergency while you are away from home. Coverage includes medical consultation, evaluation, referrals and monitoring of the care you are receiving. If you need to be hospitalized and if it is determined that the care that you are receiving is not adequate for the medical incident, you will be evacuated to the nearest facility that can provide appropriate care.

What happens if a foreign hospital doesn't recognize my health insurance identification card?

Worldwide emergency travel assistance services guarantee your hospital admission while abroad. If necessary, funds will be forwarded to the hospital to ensure that you receive prompt medical treatment.[1]

Will the service transport a family member or friend to be at my side?

Yes. If you are traveling alone and it seems likely that you will be hospitalized for more than seven days, the service will cover the cost of transportation for a family member or friend to be by your side.

What happens if I'm ready to be discharged but still need assistance?

If you still need assistance when discharged from the hospital, your travel assistance service will arrange for you to travel home with a medical or non-medical escort.

Are there other services that I should know about?

Worldwide emergency travel assistance services also provide emergency message transmission, care of minor children left unattended due to the medical incident, return of mortal remains, prescription assistance and legal and interpreter referrals.

I don't travel internationally what's the benefit of this service to me?

You are eligible for help with any medical situation if you are 100 miles or more from home this could be a weekend fishing trip or a visit with a relative. If you become ill or have an accident while traveling, you may not know how or where to access care, but with worldwide emergency travel assistance services, you can call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for assistance and advice.

Are my spouse and children covered?

For most plans, yes.[2] Your spouse and minor, dependent children are eligible for travel assistance services. They are eligible for coverage when traveling for pleasure — even if you are not traveling with them.

If I'm at home, and my doctor tells me I need to go to a particular hospital for treatment, will these services transport me?

No. This service is only for travelers who are 100 miles or more away from home and need help.

If I have an accident or illness, and I or the hospital arranges for all the necessary transportation, will I be reimbursed for the expenses involved?

No. Worldwide emergency travel assistance services are provided through Assist America Inc., a service provider, not an insurance company; therefore, Assist America must make the arrangements for all services. No requests for reimbursement for costs associated with assistance services not arranged through Assist America will be considered.

Does this service pay for my medical bills?

No. You or your health insurance plan is responsible for incurred medical expenses.

How do I access care?

With one phone call to the number on your worldwide emergency travel assistance services identification card, you can access medical assistance anywhere in the world. With a worldwide network of pre-qualified medical providers and worldwide operational capabilities, you have access to medical assistance no matter where you are.
